In a move that should revolutionize the charity shop sector, Oxfam has moved part of its business online, allowing shoppers to browse donated items without leaving their desk. The online store is now open here.
A team will hand-pick items particularly suitable for selling online, for instance, good quality vintage clothing that may be wasted on the high street. This will no doubt result in far more money going to Oxfam's causes, and will also open up the market to anyone who is housebound or simply doesn't enjoy the experience of poking around dusty charity shops. Like the stores, Oxfam's online arm will also stock books, knick-knacks, fairtrade jewellery, and chocolate.
Oxfam director Barbara Stocking said: "This is the one website where customers will know that all their purchases will directly support Oxfam working with people in poverty across the world."
The charity said it hoped to have listed 120,000 items on its site by next spring.
