We've had several stories recently about the growing trend in eco-friendly sex toys and accessories, but now I give you the first organic sex boutique - 'Organic Pleasures' based in the up-market New Town area of Edinburgh.
The store is far from the type of seedy sex shop that some of us may have visited in the past. For starters it's run by a young woman called Lucy Tanat-Jones who wanted to provide women with safe and chemical free sex toys and natural body products and clothing. Even the odd non-organic products (which are clearly labelled) are made using non-toxic and hypo-allergenic material. Lucy also cares about the planet and most of her line is recyclable and biodegradable, and made in an environmentally friendly way.

It's scary when you think that some of the brightly coloured, plastic 'toys' that are used in some of our most intimate areas are packed full of chemicals like PVC, often using phthalates. These can often be absorbed by the lipids in our bodies, and tests on lab animals have shown links between them and cancer. The same chemicals were banned from use in kid's toys back in 2005 due to fears over their safety, so it's definitely something to be concerned about.
The shop itself is more boudoir than sleazy sex shop, decorated tastefully in dark reds with gilt-framed mirrors, antiques and heavy fabric drapes. The shop has only been open for a few weeks but it has been very busy so far, with women expressing their delight at having a classy, female owned boutique where they can buy safe organic products.
