New Facebook application helps you go green

facebook%20green.jpgIf like most internet users (or, indeed, planet dwellers) you're now resident on Facebook, you'll probably be getting pretty tired of being turned into a zombie, fending off stalkers and poking your friends. So why not use this almighty resource as a force for good?

I am Green helps you do just that. It's probably the most ambitious 'green' application I've yet seen on Facebook, and it's a lot of fun, too. You get started by filling out a checklist of items that earn you green points, for example: I do not own any personal motorized watercraft, aircraft, or a hummer, I carry a mug for drinks I buy to go, and most memorably: I flush selectively (and the people who live with me accept that)! These earn you 'leaves', which are then counted as a total with the points earned by your friends. You can also specify if an activity is something you intend to do in future, so it acts as a motivational tool as much as being a pat on the back.

It also sets up a 'green hierarchy' on Facebook, which lists not only individuals, but colleges, companies and towns. So if you can win those leaves, this should distract you from crying over not being voted 'hottest' or 'most desirable for marriage' on another application...

Bad idea I'm afraid. Reminds me of the South Park 'smug' episode. Getting all smug about not owning a Hummer isn't going to solve any problems. All it does is alienate Hummer owners from making adjustments in their lives to combat global warming.
