Natural remedies for National Eczema Week

sleepsuit%2520for%2520exzema.jpeg Given that it's National Eczema Week this week, 15th-23rd September, it's a good time to do a quick round-up of just some of the natural remedies that are out there to combat this painful condition. It's bad enough to have as an adult, although many people do grow out of this uncomfortable complaint, but when you have children with it, it can be very difficult to stop them from scratching it and making it worse.

Organic cotton or silk clothes can be a huge relief for sore skin, try Natural Clothing's sleepsuit with integral mittens and feet to prevent scratching and nickel-free fastenings and loose-fitting to prevent allergies or chafing. They also make cotton mittens.
Then there's Healthy House products including an organic cotton and silk duvet, Dermasilk clothing and organic cotton clothing.

Aloe Baby specialise in products made with organic aloe vera, and other essential oils and herbs to soothe irritated skin and help healing.
SOS Skin Rescue, is a range of organic skin care products, specially developed for soothing skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. The range includes balms, creams, sprays, scalp soother, shampoo and bath oil and is available from Barefoot Botanicals as well as other natural health companies.

Then there is Elena's Collection of natural eczema products. Advertised as “the natural alternative to steroids for eczema”, Elena's plant-based creams and toiletries are a complete treatment and available on the NHS.

If your skin irritation is milder than this, especially for new mothers who spend a lot of time washing their hands, try Dream Cream from Lush or just pure olive or hemp oil from a health food shop.
See National Eczema Society for more information.
