Super(ficial) model threatens rare turtles

Stupid Super Model Naomi Campbell has stunned conservationists with her latest bright idea to build a huge casino and hotel complex on a Kenyan site which is home to a turtle sanctuary. If the scheme goes ahead on the Indian Ocean resort town of Maldini it would destroy years of work to save the endangered animals. At least five types of turtle lay their eggs on and around the beaches of Maldini.
The introduction of large amounts of artificial lights would disorientate baby turtles, who use moonlit horizons as a way to guide them safely into the ocean. There is already one hotel in the resort, run by Renault's Formula One owner - Mr Briatore - which local residents describe as "a ghastly construction".
Maldini used to be a home for retired white farmers from the Kenyan Highlands, but recently it's become a haven for sex tourists, and ex-Mafia members. Large scale development of the area began around ten years ago with the building of Briatore's £100 million hotel, at which time he insisted the local airport runway be extended to accommodate his private jet.
The latest proposal by Campbell and her posse will be discussed by local officials and will then have to go through formal planning channels. Let's hope Ms. Campbell becomes extinct before that happens!
