Temperatures set to rise
According to British scientists at the Met Office’s Hadley Centre we can expect a lull in temperature rises until 2010, after which time temperatures are set to rise to record breaking levels. The study, which is the most detailed forecast of the impact of global warming to date, is predicting year after year of record temperatures and torrential rain for us in the UK. The research team, led by Dr Smith used temperatures taken from the oceans and the atmosphere, and then tested the accuracy of their computer by predicting climate change throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. The findings of the study are published in the journal Science with regards to temperature change, the findings for change to rainfall and drought and other effects of climate change have not been published.
Climate change sceptics have predictably used the lull in temperature rises as evidence that global warming is not a real phenomenon. Despite all the evidence of global warming, it is amazing that there are still people that believe the rise in global temperatures is part of a natural cycle. I wonder how many forest fires, torrential downpours and all the other signs they’ll need before they accept that we are contributing to climate change and? Maybe a few more torrential downpours and forest fires on their doorstep might help to convince them!
