National Parks Week 30th July to 5th August 2007
This week is National Parks Week, a celebration of (you guessed it) our National Parks. There are 14 in the UK, stretching from the Highlands of Scotland down to the South West tip of England, covering around 35% of the total land area of mainland Britain. England's largest National Park - The Lake District covers 2292 square kilometres, and attracts more than 12 million visitors each year.
If you want to visit a National Park, this weekend is a great time to do it as there are a whole host of events scheduled for adults and children alike. You can go on an organised walk, visit one of the many historic monuments within the parks and let an expert tell you all about it, or try your hand at creating a work of art from found materials. A full list of events and times can be found here.
