Models join Lily Cole to support Trees for Cities' Tree-Athlon
Model Katherine Poulton and an array of other beauties are putting their green feet forward in aid of urban tree-planting campaign Trees for Cities this week, and prove their eco-friendly credentials by backing the charity’s campaign. They join top model Lily Cole, who ran the 5km race as a Tree-Athlete in 2006.
The Tree-Athlon is a three-part event for fit tree lovers of all ages: it includes a 5km run, a ‘tree wish’ and a fashion swap. Participants can bring along a clean item of clothing they no longer want, and take away something they do – with all left over clothes being donated to TRAID. The aim is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle, by recycling clothes and reducing waste.
Katherine Poulton, ICM model and former Tree-Athlete, says of her commitment to environmental causes: “The Tree-Athlon with a fashion swap is both sustainable for the planet and eco-friendly. We all want to see cities go greener and it’s a fun way for everyone to get fit whilst doing their bit for the environment – I ran it last year and had a great time!”
Other Tree-Athlon supporters include celebrity impressionist Alistair McGowan, TV garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, TV sports presenter Gabby Logan, Channel 4’s City Gardener Matt James and stand up comedienne, Shazia Mirza. Funds raised will go towards the planting and care of thousands of trees across the UK and internationally
