There is definitely a trend developing towards children's books which carry an environmental message, and the latest to be launched are The Little Humbugs . These cute little creatures, which are half child and half butterfly, are eco-superheroes who buzz about the countryside protecting the wildlife. Each character has their own little story which unfolds in a cacophony of colour, and the young readers are drawn into their magical world. The book's author - Marghanita Hughes - was born in the UK but moved to British Columbia and immediately fell in love with her surroundings.

A mother of three, she decided to create a series of books aimed at six to nine year olds which would help them understand about our fragile planet and the importance of protecting it. The books are printed on acid-free paper which is 100% ancient forest free, and are produced without the use of chlorine. A percentage of sales from the books will go towards planting trees around the world
