Get a taste of hemp heaven at the House of Hemp

house%20of%20hemp.jpgIf you enjoy a bit of knitting, or just like the feel of warm, flurry fabrics next to your skin (and let's face it, if you're in the UK you'll be needing that just now) hemp is a great material to get into. It's far better for the environment than many other yarns, and it makes beautiful, wearable and surprisingly soft garments.

Hemp is considered a 'green' fiber because it can be grown almost anywhere, meaning it doesn't need to be dowsed in toxic chemicals and can also help people in hostile environments make a living. It also leaves the soil it's planted on in great condition. It can even get you high...but that's not what we're interested in here!

If you've not worn hemp before, a great place to start is House of Hemp, which is not only a store selling beautiful and unique handmade items and materials, but a great information source on this very versatile plant. They even have a directory packed full of other places to find hemp, and it you want to become part of it all, you can join their 'hemp hub'. [via Crafty Crafty]
