Fushi holistic haircare range: delicious ingredients for radiant locks

fushi2.jpgSince so many of you expressed a strong preference for beauty products that don't contain unnatural additives, I'm going to be profiling some of the best chemical-free potions and lotions that I've been trying out since starting out as a hippy shopper. I'm going to start with my personal favourite botanical haircare range, which is made by a new company called Fushi.

Like many of the product samples that have landed on my desk, this one doesn't contain any parabens, sulphates, artificial perfumes or petrochemicals. What it does contain is a whole garden full of botanical extracts, which practically jump out of the bottle at you...

The 'scalp soother' shampoo I tried had chamomile, bergamot, geranium, rose and evening primrose oil to name but a few. But the main difference between this and other natural haircare ranges is that it manages to clean and shine your hair just as well as the more prolific, chemical-laden products do.

My hair is incredibly dry, and the main problem I've had with natural hair products so far is that they often aren't as creamy as their traditional counterparts and don't lather, leav ing hair brittle. This range doesn't have this drawback, and lathers up nicely. I think what really sells it to me. however, is the incredibly fruity, floral smell, and this will stay with you all day after using it. Fushi's haircare range is not tested on animals and is available online.

I eagerly looked at the Fushi site but I have to be honest - £15 for a bottle of shampoo! I can't afford such prices.

Are there any affordable eco-friendly hair and beauty products? (By affordable I mean under £5)

I want to be green but I'd need a mortgage to do it!

Hi Claire

I guess the cost of this reflects the fact that it's one of the better ones. If you're looking for something cheaper, I've tried a few. Some of these were not creamy enough for me, but I do have very dry hair, so if yours is normal or at all greasy they could actually be good for you.

One of these is from Fresh & Wild/Whole foods market. Their own brand shampoo smells fantastic, and costs just £2.99 if I recall correctly - for some reason it isn't obvious on their site, but they currently have it on sale in their stores.

another is from the new Bulldog range, which is actually intended for men, but is such good value it might be worth a try. You can also buy it in Sainsburys. you can read about it here:

hope this helps!
