Flooding in Sudan worsens
The flooding in Sudan that kicked off several weeks ago has thus far caused devastation, affecting 365,000, killing at minimum 64 people, injuring 335 and wrecking over 30,000 homes. The United Nations has warned that if the flooding carries on without respite the situation could “deteriorate considerably.” The areas that have suffered the most are Khartoum – the capital, Kassala, Northern Kordofan, Unity and the Upper Nile. According to the U.N. a shortage of clean water could elevate the risk or waterborne epidemics. Over 630 cases of acute diarrhea have been reported in Gedaref, resulting in 39 deaths.
