Want to know what the mystery milk-in-a-bag looks like? For those of you who haven’t set your eyes on Waitrose's new eco-paks click on.
Waitrose is trialling the Calon Wen organic milk packs as an alternative to traditional bottles to reduce plastic use. However, the supermarket is currently only selling them in 21 stores – most of which are in London. If the trial is successful, they have plans to roll them out across the country.

The one-litre "eco paks" use 75% less plastic, and the supermarket estimates that if all milk in the UK was sold in this format, it would save some 100,000 tonnes of plastic each year. Around 180 million pints of milk are consumed each week in the UK. To go with the new format, Waitrose is selling a refillable milk jug, which costs £1.99. The "eco pak" is being produced in conjunction with Welsh organic milk farming group Calon Wen and costs 91p for a litre of milk.

Hi guys
Thanks for the demo of the milk-in-a-bag. I am one of the farmers from the Calon Wen Organic milk co-operative that has launched the milk-in-a-bag concept. You needn't have bothered travelling all the way to Israel as we have a nice little demo on our website (www.calonwen-cymru.com) that shows how to use it. As for leaks, I know it is early days and you clearly haven't had a good experience with Israeli milk bags, but ours hardly, if ever leak. Some other useful hints though and thanks for going to the effort of putting the piece together. Spending time in that glorious sunshine must have been a nightmare for you.
We've had milk bags in Ontario (Canada) forever--all my life, at least, and I'm the wrong side of thirty. ;) They're much easier to carry and store, and the milk stays fresher longer too.
