The Body Shop Switches to Sustainable Palm Oil

bodyshop-2.jpg

The Body Shop International is the first cosmetics retailer to commit to sourcing all its palm oil from sustainable sources. Irresponsible palm oil production is a significant factor in the drastic decline of the world's most ancient rainforests. The Body Shop will instead get their palm oil from sustainable plantations in Columbia.

Peter Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of The Body Shop, elaborated:

“The switch to sustainable palm oil is a landmark step forward for The Body Shop and a potentially groundbreaking development for the whole cosmetics industry. Many people who use soap everyday will be unaware that they are contributing to a major environmental catastrophe: the destruction of ancient rainforests and the extinction of endangered species. Our ambition is for the majority of the world’s palm oil production to be sustainable within the next two to three years but this will not be achieved by The Body Shop in isolation – our decision must inspire other businesses to join us and tackle the problem head on.”

It is good that the body shop are doing this. However they are now part owned by nestle and to buy from them you are supporting all that nestle do. If you dont know what they are doing or about the nestle boycott go to http://www.babymilkaction.org/
