Protests in last ditch effort to prolong Shambo's life

Hindu monks appear to be battling to the bitter end as more than 100 protesters turn away government officials who arrived to take sacred Shambo away for slaughter. Taking part in a religious ceremony at the temple at the multi-faith Skanda Vale community in west Wales, the protesters refused access to Shambo on grounds that the officials did not have a warrant.

The Welsh Assembly Government said Shambo had to be destroyed after testing positive for bovine TB. His slaughter today would have brought the end to a protracted legal battle. The protest is more likely to be a mere delay, as the Welsh Assembly officials will now be able to apply for an official warrant, which is only granted after access has been denied.
