Oy, white transit van man - go green!

If you run a fleet of white vans or are a white van driver yourself you should have a good look at Smith Electric Vehicles. Their Edison van, based on a Ford Transit, is fully electric and beats a diesel from 0-30mph. Come on, that has to entice the average white van man – good for a race off the lights or nippy over-taking.

So it’s not slow, but it’s got to be knackered by the time you get halfway down the road, right? Wrong! It can do 150 miles on one charge and carry a 1338kg load. Plus it has all the good features of any electric vehicle – No tax, no London congestion charge, and best of all for us hippies, no emissions. It’s also less than 3.5 tonnes, which means that your drivers do not require a Class C licence. So come and jump on the green bandwagon and ditch the old rattling diesel. You won't be alone - Sainsbury's has just ordered a whole fleet of them.

And what's more -- Sainsbury's have confirmed that they will be phasing out diesel vans in the rest of their urban delivery fleet, and all of them will be electric within 3 years from now. So this initial order is not just some token gesture. It is quite likely that other similar contracts will be mentioned when the company that own SmithEV (Tanfield Group) issue their latest Trading Update next week.
