Live Earth will change Britons

40% of Britons say the Live Earth concerts will make them greener according to a new survey by a leading tracker of ethical companies. The Ethical Reputation Index, in conjunction with Lightspeed Research, found that 40% of interviewees think the event will inspire them to do more to combat climate change. In comparison, 51% of Americans and 39% of Australians thought the event would encourage them to do more. However, many passed the buck, blaming companies and the Government for not doing more.

Britons think that the Government and companies have crucial roles to play in addressing the environment. 93% of respondents thought companies should do more, like recycling, reducing packaging and to using local suppliers. 92% of people think that the Government is not doing enough, with the most popular remedies being grants for green home improvements, tax relief for greener companies and increasing penalties for the worst business offenders.
The survey, carried out amongst Britons, Americans and Australians between the 22nd and 26th June, also found that 88% of Britons believe that individual actions can have a positive impact on climate change. The most popular efforts included re-using grocery bags, using energy saving light bulbs and recycling.
