Live Earth: a mixed response, as Madonna branded a 'hypocrite'

madonna%20live%20earth.jpgMadonna has been dubbed 'a climate-change catastrophe' following her appearance at Live Earth, in an attack that many have applied to the entire event.

In the aftermath of the Live Earth, which had been controversial from the outset, the pop princess received criticism for promoting green lifestyles whilst committing a host of heinous climate crimes of her own; one tabloid reports that these include 'carbon emissions from nine houses, a fleet of cars, a private jet and the Confessions tour', calling her a 'climate-change catastrophe.' According to other reports, Madonna leads the pack of the worst individual rock star polluters in the world.

But the broadsheets were no less scathing in their coverage of Al Gore's mammoth event: The Guardian declared Live Earth 'a ratings flop' after the event, and before it happened, ran an article claiming that the concert served only to underline the hopelessness of the situation and how little substantial effort most people are willing to make. It seems Bob Geldof's grumpy condemnation of Live Earth may be how it is remembered.

So, when we all melt, we can blame the Guardian and Bob Geldolf for not caring.

Any coverage, positive or negative, is good at this point in the fight against pollution. To get the topic into the collective stream of consciousness is really the point at this juncture. That the nay-sayers are talking so much about the "failure" of green events yet the public is tuned into their favorite musicians, actors and celebrities who are talking and talking and talking positively about it only adds to the allure of sustainable lifestyles and green alternatives.

Shoot, the fact I have to be careful in feeding my child friggin' fish, FISH!, should be enough of a wake up call to do something about it.

Also, there's A LOT of money to be made to change how we do things. Going green is a great way to think of it!

The worm is turning, whether you subcribe to climate change or not. Hopefully the American people will wake up from their long malaise and choose to lead on this issue that's so important and positive.

I have no idea what Madonna is worth but the way she is treated by the media ITS NOT ENOUGH. I honestly don't think this woman deserves the constant attacks, why is everyone trying to ruin her career when she has worked like a dog to get where she is? Its a sad world we live in when the press resorts to fiction and deluted half truths to hurt someone who has given far more than most over the years to save thousands of lives and never once used the untold millions she gives freely to futher her career.

Went to the Live Earth show in E.R., NJ on Saturday.
Music was great, fun crowd. Chuckled when I saw the plane circling the stadium w/the demanddebate.com banner.
Unfortunately, most of the show was smoke and mirrors covering up the absolutely self-righteous ignorance of the Gore worshippers. Al Gore preaching from his pulpit of lies and hypocrisy infuriates me.
Here is why I feel this way…Celebrities flew in private jets to perform and preach about “consumption”, while there were 2 dozen CO2 tanks behind the stage in plain view used to assist powering the lights, equipment and speakers, etc.
There were paper towels in the air conditioned restrooms. There are concession stands, loud speakers, outdoor lighting, etc., all powered by standard electricity derived from FOSSIL FUEL!
Advertisers in the stadium include TOYOTA, Hess & GEICO car insurance!!! Who are they kidding?
Being aware of our consumption is a good thing. Being wasteful is not a good thing.
Unfortunately, Live Earth failed getting their message across because their own abuse of the Earth’s resources counter-effect their cause.
Nice try, though.

They couldn't find anyone better than some almost-50 broad to close the London show?

I find it sad that the negatives all seem to out perform the positives in a case like Live Earth. Sure it may have it's flaws but the media and critics should learn to just keep quiet and let a simple message be heard. I am not a huge fan of Madonna by no means but hey, I give her credit for getting involved and speaking or having a voice and be willing and open to change of habit/s. I really think we all need to get over our need to seek out a person's weakness and learn how to praise for achieving or working towards an ethical and or environmental solution and LEARN FROM IT. Stop being so negative!

Madonna is considered one of the most giving entertainers in the world I think people should leave her alone I am not a Madonna music fan I am a country music girl but I do think Madonna is by far the most talented super star out there. You don't have to be a rock person to appreciate this woman as an artist and a person. During the 911 attacks I recall Madonna giving over 25 million dollars to the victims she also gave millions to Katrina victims and everyone knows she has funded millions to AIDS patients, cancer victims, and a host of childrens charities.

Its a dark day when people trash someone like Madonna who actually tries to give back to the world, and unlike the majority she never takes credit for any of it at least people can do is repect her!

Where do people come up with this stuff? Madonna pours millions of her hard earned money into a charity she established to save thousands of lives and someone finds a way to attack her? Madonna does not dictate policy at any company she or her charity have invested, this is a unjustified ploy by the media to use Madonna to get peoples attention to read thier unjustified artcles. Am I the only one that thinks this is just as low as it gets? Its not like the woman just started trying to help others is it? Its fact she has given a vast fortune since her career begain in all honesty probally more than just anout any other artist and sadly no one ever says thank you Madonna instead they look for ways to make her the devil just to sell trash and get attention. Not many in Hollywood give so much destroy Madonna's career and you only hurt the thousands of people who she will continue to save..and she has never asked for anything in return has she? She does not get all over TV bragging about the fortune she has given every year most of it privately.

I just thinks its wrong no matter what anyone thinks of her as an artist she does not deserve to be constantly ripped apart for trying to be a decent human being.

Read for comprehension. Nowhere did I attack her personally. There are many, many more "name" performers that could have ended the London part of the show than an almost-50 woman whose dancers are young enough to be her children.

Ya think she flew to Malawi via BA? Yeah, right, break out the violins and cry me a river.

Alfred what does near 50 have to do with anything? Madonna out performed everyone at the event like it or not and if Madonna not being a teen ager anymore bothers you then you are shallow person.. And her children are far younger than her dancers another stupid childish thing to say -- grow up and stop being envious of someone you don't even know. For near 50 she looked 30 and i still considered stunning by the moral majority. Get over it.
