Car pooling takes off on Facebook

cool%20to%20carpool%20facebook.jpgBelieve it or not, more worthy causes are furthered on Facebook than finding innovative ways to 'poke' your friends or throw virtual food. In fact, the latest trend to catch on is quite a green one: car pooling.

Members of the rapidly growing social network site can use a free add-on to advertise when and where they're travelling, and arrange car shares with people in their area, whether it's for a regular commute, or a journey to a one-off event. As well as the obvious advantages of saving C02, the schemes are also being seen as a great way to meet new people. There are currently 158 of these groups on Facebook, so you're bound to find someone willing to share their car near you. [Via New Consumer]
