Think! about what you are wearing this summer

thinkclothing.jpgThis month I’ve got my eye on Think! Clothing. If you are wondering what to wear to the office on those long summer days, I suggest you cast your eyes over the cheeky deep plunge top (100% cotton) with side button fastening (so you can show all your mates how great you look after that sensational summer holiday) and the wide-leg side buttoning trousers, with a deep waistband to hide your bottom (if the holiday led to the accumulation of a roomier, comfier rear end).

thinktrousers.jpgThink! Clothing was established to create attractive fairly traded womenswear and provide India’s rural and urban poor with the ability to earn an income via traditional handloom weaving and garment production. Additionally, the co-operative organisations producing the products use some of the proceeds to establish health and development projects, which will aid their employees and other individuals in need of assistance.

The range is created in London, by Jane, a graduate of Middlesex University, who, having spent several years working in the fashion industry in London travelled to Asia and was shocked at the endemic poverty. Jane began to shop ethically and dismayed at the quality of fairly traded clothing, set up her own fashion range.

The dyes used in the fabrics are azo-free (hurrah) and Think! use renewable electricity, print on recycled paper with vegetable inks, recycle their used paper with a local green box scheme and bank ethically with the Co-op. They do however admit to eating a lot of fair trade chocolate and importing the first collection by air, slightly reducing their saintly credentials, but, no-one’s perfect!
