Recycled crafting is the new knitting!

ecocollage.jpg

I'm a big fan of The Worsted Witch, who combines a passion for environmentalism with a keen eye for craft and design. In her blog today, she's come up with some really inspiring indie products made from recycled and vintage materials, including cutpile clutch bags made from recycled carpet tiles and scrap wood, and a beautiful recycled leather Tree Limb passport case. It's beginning to look like making things from re-claimed and recycled materials is taking over from knitting as the hippest new craft.

So I decided to go on a mission to find some of the funkiest recycled craft products out there, and have been very much encouraged by how many creative uses crafty people are finding for recycled and re-claimed materials. The collage above is just a small selection of what I found. There are no drab colours or washed-out old sackcloth rags here, just really bright ideas from the fertile hive-mind of Etsy. Clockwise from top: 100% consumer waste bird love card, Scrap collage: 'No Tonic for the Dead', 100% organic Creme Caramel sock yarn, reclaimed sweater monkey, hemp kukka skirt, Eco-friendly napkin set.
