Ready meals go natural with Love Foods
Ready meals are usually chock full and additives. However, Love Foods have produced a range of ready meals that are handmade, free from additives and preservatives and free of meat, using soya as a substitute. Soya is high in antioxidants, magnesium and Vitamin E, as well as being low in saturated fats and cholesterol free. These ready meals are available in selected Somerfield stores.
Having checked out the ingredients of some of the products, I personally would not eat them, mainly because I am vegan, but also because they use Isolated Soya Protein Powder, which is less nutritious because it is processed. I am also aware of the dangers of soya, so I try not to eat it too often. Soya contains high levels of phytic acid which are said to reduce the body’s uptake of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. It also contains trypsin inhibitors, which can play havoc with protein digestion and some research has found that phytoestrogens in soya can potentially lead to infertility and promote breast cancer in adult women. These are just a few of the alleged dangers associated with soya.
However, compared to a lot of the ready meals available in supermarkets that are full of ingredients with long chemical names that sound highly ominous, Love Foods products are a much healthier option. I believe that it is better to go all natural and avoid ready meals, but if you must eat them, you could do far worse than Love Foods.
