Mymensingh traditional handicrafts
Mymensingh was established in 2004 to promote and sell traditional handcrafted products from Bangladesh and other developing countries. Mymensingh aims to support specific social groups that are in danger of losing their traditional craft skills through poverty, social rejection and urbanisation. The main supplier for Mymensingh has created around 200 groups comprising of around 3000 craft persons (of which 90% are women) throughout Bangladesh, and provides them with organisational support and a stable income. The project has helped some of the most disadvantaged and excluded people in Bangladesh. The products they sell range from bags and jewellery to house wares and soft furnishings.
There is such a wide range of products, it is hard to find just one to mention, but I like the silver bangles best, I think they are versatile and can be worn with a variety of outfits. Perhaps I should have checked that with my partner first, as an eco-stylist she knows far more about fashion than I do! They cost £80 per set, but I think they are worth every penny. With every purchase you make you are helping to sustain a way of life that would otherwise die out completely. You can buy the products from their website.
