How green was Glastonbury?
Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis aimed to make this year's Glastonbury festival the 'greenest ever', but all that anyone's talking about after the event is Kate Moss's wellies and the mud! So were you there? Did you see any really effective green initiatives being carried out? An article in the New Statesman has shed some light on what was achieved.
Green party Spokeswoman Sian Berry, who attended the festival, admits that while it's easy to be cynical, Glasto's eco-record is probably pretty sound. She observes that the land itself was treated mostly with respect (despite the addition of several mobile phones into the mud); the food was almost entirely vegetarian and locally-sourced, as well as very tasty and served in re-usable containers; compost bins were provided, and plenty of Green causes were being fought. Her main concerns centred around transport. You can read the entire article here.
