Morals down the pan: Britons 'treating loos like dustbins'
The latest environmental crime we've been warned of this week is the rather unsavory habit of using the toilet as a rubbish bin, as it is revealed that many people in Britain flush away fast-food boxes, cloth nappies and in some cases even razor blades. This leads to unsightly and hazardous rubbish appearing in rivers and on beaches, and can even block pipes, causing flooding. The main culprits were revealed to be female sanitary products, facial and cleansing wipes, food, cigarette stubs and cotton buds, none of which should ever be in our toilets' diets...

Keep Britain tidy, the charity that carried out the research and recorded the various confessions of bad loo-usage issued a statement urging people to change their habits and 'think before they flush'. Its Chief Executive, Alan Woods, said: "People wrongly believe that toilets are black holes which can swallow up anything they want to get rid of - but that is definitely not the case."

Using the toilet as a dustbin also wastes water and as the water has been treated and pumped to you house it also increases your carbin footprint.
