Dixons goes green

dixons.jpgThe electronics retailer Dixons Store Group has decided to ‘go green’ with its electrical goods. This follows an increase in the sales of energy efficient appliances, and a marked shift in attitude by consumers. In a speech to suppliers in London yesterday, Dixons chief executive John Clare set out his company’s new green approach. Among a range of measures outlined by Mr Clare, the phasing out of stand-by functions on electrical products such as TVs and DVD players alone would save the average household 10% on its annual electricity bill. Which means less CO2 emissions from the power stations. Together with the other proposals, the future is looking greener for Dixons.

The cynical among you may feel that this is merely a way of exploiting a new trend in the market for purely financial reasons. You may be right, you may be wrong, it is not something I can comment on, but either way it will raise awareness and help to reduce CO2 emissions. Which, after all, is the important thing.
