Virgin tries hard with bio card

virgin.jpg

Virgin Money is trying to cobble together some eco-cred with the promise of a biodegradable credit card. Virgin says it is working with eco-designer Robert Holdway of Giraffe Innovation on a card made from biodegradable materials. No launch date has been given and many see this as a feeble marketing ploy after Barclaycard recently revealed its green credit card named Breathe.

The Breathe card, due to be launched this summer, will be made out of PETG, a greener alternative to traditional plastic. I assume it’s called Breathe since consumers looking to ease their environmental conscience can respiriate easily about Barclaycard’s promise to donate 50% of its after-tax profits from the card to environmental projects. More eco-marketing wars will inevitably follow as companies increasingly battle to be seen as harmonising with the environment.
