Vectrix electric scooter – Yay or nay?
Well I would say yay… I think. It’s nice looking, no emissions, eco, green, hippy, all that stuff. For most people the big deal is how cheap it is. A full charge costs approximately 20 pence and that gets you 70 miles. So covering 200 miles per week at average speeds of 35 to 50mph costs a quid, £1, that’s nothing, well in fact it’s 90 per cent less than petrol. Plus it’s also exempt from road tax and qualifies for a 50 per cent saving on insurance premiums.

However, the scooter costs £6,930 and the battery costs £2,000 to replace (after about 10 years). Now that’s big, well comparatively. I mean you can buy a small car for that and it comes with a roof. Most petrol scooters don’t seem to cost more than £1000. So that is a whopping outlay, and all in all Vectrix claims a four year cost 25 per cent lower than a 400cc scooter, or 10 per cent less lifetime saving. Plus this ignores residual value and battery replacement. But if you’ve got the money to spend, then the green-argument should win over. Unfortunately though, this might not be the total eco-solution scooter since most people might balk because of the price.
