Something for the bank holiday

yalding_labyrinth1.jpgThe bank holiday weekend is almost here, and with it comes the usual mad rush out of the city and into the countryside. To me it conjures up images of slow moving traffic, bored children and irritated parents. How about a different day out this bank holiday? Why not take the train to Yalding and spend the day at Yalding Gardens in Kent.

Garden Organic Yalding is set in five acres of Kentish countryside, just a mile and a half walk from Yalding Train station.

There are fourteen individual gardens that make up the ‘Gardening through the ages’ tour, each with carefully chosen plants that are true to the era and demonstrate the practises of each period. Apart from the historical gardens, there are modern organic fruit and vegetable gardens, which show how to apply organic methods to your own garden. There is a low water garden and an informative recycling area too.

There is a café overlooking the gardens, which serves fresh organic food at lunch time and tea and coffee throughout the day, a gift shop and a plant sales area.

All in all, this is a wonderful day out for children and adults, whether you want to learn about the history of British gardening or just want to spend time in nature in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, Garden Organic Yalding is the place for you.
