No more Mars Bars for veggies
It's sucky news for strict veggies this week as chocolate maker Masterfoods announced their chocolates would no longer be suitable for vegetarian diets. Affected products include Mars Bars, Snickers, Maltesers, Twix, Bounty, Minstrels, Milky Way and all ice-cream versions of the products. Goods with a best before date of 1st October will still be fine for veggies however.
The problem is the use of rennet, a chemical derived from calves' stomachs, will now be used in the manufacturing of the chocolate. The Vegetarian Society are said to be dissapointed with the move, saying, "At a time when more and more consumers are concerned about the provenance of their food, Masterfoods' decision to use non-vegetarian whey is a backward step."
