Lights out London: blackout pledge for longest day

lightsoutnow_main.jpgFor one day next month, Lights out London wants everyone in the capital to 'switch off to switch on' to climate change.

The 'blackout', which it's hoped will remind people that there's really no need to leave lights blazing unnecessarily will take place on Thursday 21st June - the longest day of the year. With all that natural light available, even the worst culprits should manage to switch off for just one hour, between 8 and 9pm. [Via New Consumer]

Those taking part (and let's face it, it should be all of us) are also urged to take televisions and other appliances off standby, in what could be an interesting experiment in just how much energy we can save in one hour.

Whether or not you approve of 'stunts' of this kind (or, indeed, live in London), why not join in and tell your friends and colleagues of the plan. A similar attempt earlier in the year received very little publicity, and fell flat on its face, so let's try a bit harder this time, folks.
