Joey D's recycled clothing

joey%20d.jpgJoey D is a legend in Edinburgh. His shop lies in the heart of the gay district, and from the outside it looks very unassuming, but inside it's a venerable cornucopia of great clothing and accessories. He uses everything from pieces of army camouflage to old boiler suits, and tweed remnants to create the most amazing, cutting edge clothing. I think some of his garments are reminiscent of the great Vivienne Westwood designs, but at a fraction of the cost.

He creates his work in a small room at the back of the shop and is happy to spend time discussing his ideas with customers, or simply passing the time of day. He makes clothing for men and women, including wonderful overcoats, like the one shown here. He also does a great line of bags made from old coats and ammunition belts! Owning a piece by Joey D is like wearing a badge of honour which says you have great taste in clothing, which doesn't cost the earth.
