Brewing waste to generate energy?
Those beer bottles aren't only there to remind you (if you needed it) that the weekend is a mere matter of hours away; they could also be the future of green energy. Australian brewery Fosters and the University of Queensland have teamed up to try and create a method that would use brewing waste to generate energy with a microbial fuel cell.
The fuel cell would contain bacteria, which consume water-soluble brewing waste such as sugar, starch and alcohol. The bacteria release chemical energy, which the cell converts into clean, green electricity. Let's make a toast to that!
