Stunning summer styles from Ciel
Yesterday we brought you a selection of the hottest eco-chic summer dresses as chosen by ethical superstore Adili. To my mind, one that particularly stood out was this black and gold handprinted dress by Ciel, so I decided to get a closer look at it...
The 'Amy' dress is made from luxury eco fabric and is block-printed using traditional methods. At £155 it's not exactly cheap, but is the sort of classic that would be a great investment for any wardrobe, and I can see it making the perfect outfit for garden parties and posh picnics.
The entire collection is influence by the style of 'romantic English summers', and Ciel's ethos of embracing the idea of 'slow' fashion; creates timeless, high quality pieces that will be welcome in your wardrobe for many years to come, instead of gracing landfill sites.
The philosophy is a big hit with celebrities, including Cate Blanchett and Zoe Ball. The clothing is all made of eco-friendly materials, including organic linen, Peruvian organic and colour grown cotton, phthalate-free prints, bamboo and organic cotton denim, modal and hemp silk crepe blends, all using azo-free dyes. As well as using environmentally friendly ingredients to make the clothing. Ciel's designer Sarah Ratty is committed to socially responsible trading and production methods, and claims that her company is 'one of the first carbon neutral fashion comnpanies'.
