No rotten jokes about Compost Awareness Week!

CompostWeek.jpg

Look, I’m the first to admit that it’s not glamourous, but it’s the 7th annual Compost Awareness Week from Sunday 6th to Saturday 12th May. I mean, the mere fact of there being seven of them is quite an achievement. I’m not sure people are going to wear compost on their lapels but the point is that we produce around 30 million tonnes of rubbish each year and over one third of an average UK household dustbin can be home composted. It’s an obvious thing to do, unless of course you live in flat.

Compost Awareness Week aims to encourage more people to recognise the benefits of home composting and the great results that can be achieved in the garden by using peat-free composts containing recycled materials. The event is run by the Composting Association – isn’t it amazing what people can make an association out of these days – but they are clearly doing ground-breaking work. Was that a bit of a stale pun? Alright, I’ll stop now, but at least check out www.compostawarenessweek.org.uk
