El Alto ethical outdoor gear

el%20alto.jpgIt always disappoints me that more outdoor clothing manufacturers haven't started producing ethical and eco garments, after all a love of the great outdoors usually equates with a love of the planet in general. El Alto's clothes are made in Bolivia, and they operate a fairtrade policy to ensure the workers manufacturing their garments are paid and treated fairly. Their factory, in El Paz, is owned and run by local businessmen and mountaineers who are happy to earn an honest living outwith the short trekking season. Their range is quite limited, but they have some rather nice jackets and gilets for men and women. Prices range from £35 - £68.
