Yummy recycled bags from Nahui Ollin

nahuiollin.jpg
It seems like, oh, days since I wrote about a bag on Hippyshopper, so let's redress that with news of another designer doing fantastic things with bits of scrap. In Mexican-born Nahui Ollin's case, the crafting methods used are part of her heritage, as she follows ancient Mayan techniques to bind the items together. The materials used, however, are modern, including sweet wrappers and soda labels, and the results are surprisingly stylish and smart - good enough for approval from The Bag Lady too! You can order them online, and the website lets you select by style, colour or size.

What will happen when all these bags fall to bits, I wonder. Do we have recycled recycled fashion to look forward to in the future?

How do you know if these handbags are made in a FAIR TRADE environment, such as inmates in Mexican jails or if the paper being used is truly recycled paper and not just paper that they purposely buy to make them?
