More bloggers react to 'global warming swindle' show

EarthBlueMarbleWestTerra.jpgLast week's C4 documentary, which questioned mankind's role in climate change, seems to have left a greater impression than I'd suspected, and I stumbled across a fresh crop of blog posts after it was repeated on Monday night. It seems to have divided opinions pretty starkly. Read on to see the different arguments, and tell me which side you fall on...

One blogger who came down against the claims was Battlekitty, who 'doesn't usually write a lot of observations' on issues of the day, but was sufficiently stirred up by the claims made in the show to do so today. You can read her reaction to it here.

Sitting on the fence was Katherine Cameron in her Hand Picked blog. She emphasised the need to be open to new theories and alternative views, rather than treating the 'mankind to blame' theory as a closed book. A point I agree with strongly if we're going to have any credibility, but see Gareth Kane's comments on the absence of peer-review scrutiny in Eco Living.

And yes, there were more blogs this week on the 'pro' climate change denial side than I'd expected, with quite a few not unreasonably pleased to see their beliefs aired. These mostly came from what I'd see as the slightly paranoid, conspiracy theorist camp, on sites such as 'back off government', where this blogger backs up the claims that CO2-caused global warming is either exaggerated or non-existent, refering to a graph documenting C02/climate patterns in the past. However, in this blog whose authors identify as 'climate scientists', the graph is criticised as 'being rather odd and may have been carefully selected; on a more usual (and sourced!) plot the "4 decades of cooling" is rather less evident'

...I just think there is always a backlash when everyone suddenly jumps on a bandwagon. It's a very human reaction to seeing every single vote-hungry politician suddenly onboard. I agree, all these nodding Tories make me smile. But that doesn't mean we're not RIGHT... (and now they are too)
