choc%20cake.jpgHow cruel of me to do this before lent is over! But for one reason or another (let's blame hormones) I'm feeling very in the mood for chocolate today. In fact, a slice of one of these stunning works of art from the Organic Chocolate Cake Company would be my idea of heaven just now.

The cakes, which are all certified organic, are made with organic chocolate containing 72% coco solids, and there are some even more spectacular creations that would make a fantastic centrepiece for a green wedding.

Jodie Kidd gets (eco) friendly with LG

LG%20flower.jpgLG, of super-shiny mobile phone fame, is launching a new range of eco-gadgets for the home. To bring the new products to the masses, it's drafted in model Jodie Kidd, whose house has been completely kitted out with the stylish green products including the Steam Imperial Flower Direct Drive washing machine pictured left. It saves 35% of the water of a standard washer, uses 21% less energy and is rated A++ for energy. It has a 'steam' option for use when your clothes simply need freshening up, reducing the need for full washes, and also eliminates the need for ironing. Take that, David Cameron!

Bijou Flower: old jewellery to treasure again

What's great about Sally's website is that the content is constantly changing, with new items appearing all the time. She's not limited to any particular period or style, so whether you're a 20s flapper at heart or an 80s disco-dolly, there'll be something you like appearing soon...

no%20cows.jpgIf you prefer to avoid all animal products, it can mighty hard finding shops that cater to your needs. But Johnny Interweb has come to the rescue once again, with No Cows, a site that offers all those decadent pleasures so often denied to non-carnivores. Because everyone knows vegans are just masochists, right?

carry%20ab%20bag-thumb.jpgIt's only a matter of time before Gucci and Prada are making recycled cloth shopping totes. It's no longer cool to use plastic bags from supermarkets, even they are offering you 'green points' on your loyalty cards to re-use your own bags, and all the hoo ha over Anya Hindmarch's reuseable bag means everyone wants a cool shopper.

So if you want to look stylish while you're saving the planet why not bag yourelf (see what I did there?) one of these pretty totes from 'Carry-a-Bag'. They come in all sorts of lovely colours and designs, all made from recycled curtains and tablecloths. They are fully lined and reversible, which means they are strong and you get two looks for the price of one! You can buy a bag with a standard message on it, or have one specially made. Bags range in price from £15- £50

Eco bamboo wind chime

bamboo%20chime.JPGDon't wind chimes sound pretty in the garden? And knowing that this one's purchase has gone to support critially endangered Sumatran Orangutans who are facing extinction is music to my ears.

This bamboo chime is made from bamboo from enviromentally responsible sources too - £15 at John Lewis.

GK%20thumb.JPGTory leaer David Cameron has made a big fuss about his intention to install a wind turbine on his Kensington home, only to be held up by the planning system. Now he has finally got it up, The Mail On Sunday reports that it is in slightly the wrong place - a whole metre from where it should be - and may have to come down again. This could be the least of Dave's problems - there is growing evidence that these turbines fare very badly on top of ridged roofs with Clean Slate magazine quoting as yet unpublished research that they may only produce 5% of the electricity they are expected to generate in ideal conditions.

Superdrug.JPGSuperdrug are on a roll with their charity magazine-sized bags. After massively successful sales of their previous styles, with sales of £100,000 in aid of the Prince's Trust, designer Wale Adeyemi has been drafted in to bring out new styles. The three colourways include this mono zebra stripe with gold kisses, green and purple.

They'll be in stores from April and cost £4.99.

stellacare.JPGIt's a good thing for the organic beauty industry when the big fashion names decide they want a piece of the action. Of course, it is only natural that Stella McCartney should be making waves with her new range Care, after all she's already launched a GMO and animal testing free perfume range 'Pampering' and is a big campaigner for all things animal friendly.

So this range is bound to get a few tongues wagging. The EcoCert certified products are all organic and derived from nautral sources. Stella says, "We are at the start of a new century now and not just living on the leftovers of a tree-hugging society. I think that people expect luxury from their organic products, and yet those are two words that are never linked together. I know that most of what I put on my skin is also being absorbed by my body. I eat organic food and I live a fairly healthy lifestyle, so I demand that of my skincare.

While an eco fashion show raising money for Comic Relief in an Oxford nightclub may not sound as glamorous as front row seats at Marc Jacob's first London Fashion Week show, the Ethical Fashion Forum did their damndest to make sure it was as close to the real thing as possible.

The show started nearly an hour later than expected - although guests were mollified with a range of canapes - and there was enough chaos front of house to keep any fashionista happy. Separating the Oxford venture from the world of high fashion was the homely touches: coltish students practicing their model walks along a line of white tape on the floor, proud parents arguing over the operation of their digital cameras, and groups of boys wolf-whistling at every sashay.

save.jpgWouldn't it be great if all the world's problems could be solved by blogging? If all we had to do was type our grievences about the state of the planet into a little box in one big rant, hit 'post' and wait for some wise anonymous commenter to give us all the answers?

Maybe it's not going to work like that, but we can dream, and I was inspired by this list compiled by Valleywag, with suggestions for '10 online ways to save the world' - so I've come up with a similar list for Hippyshopper: Hippyshopper's top 10 sites to make the world a better place

1. Click4thecause: Until the end of this month, every time you use this search engine instead of your usual one, you'll be donating to ninemillion, a UN campaig set up to help the 9 million children worldwide who are living as refugees. There's some more info on this wonderful idea here.

2. We are what we do. Very slick-looking site crammed full of tips both big and small on making the world a happier place. Helps kick-start your good intentions, and lets you track your good deeds.

3. The Hunger Site. The original free 'click to donate' site that's still going strong. And don't forget, you can also donate to breast cancer research, underpriviledged kids, animal shelters and rainforest conservations projects while you there.

4. ChanceXchange: chanceXchange is a free service where you can trade unwanted films, cds and books for those things that you really want. Earn double brownie points for the fact that you're not only reusing and reducing waste, but you're also making someone's day by offering that unwanted Backstreet Boys album they've been coveting for years.

5. E-Cards. Sending an e-card for a friend's birthday is a good way to avoid the wastage of sending paper cards through the post. And they're not all as naff as you might have feared. Have a browse though this site for some really imaginative designs, including stunning wildlife photography.

bike%20station.gifThe Bike Station is a project which renovates bikes donated by the public and then passes them on to vulnerable groups, such as the homeless, unemployed and mentally ill. Some of the recycled bikes are sold on to raise funds for the project. They also work with schools and groups to encourage the use of bikes as a sustainable, green, healthy way to travel.

owl-thumb.jpgIf Easter spells disaster for your children’s teeth why not forego the usual chocolate eggs and get your kids something they’re going to enjoy, and which won’t result in a trip to the dentist.

For only £14 your child can become a RSPB 'Wildlife Explorer' . Their membership will get them lots of cool wildlife goodies, including stickers, posters, a magazine, and best of all free entry to over 100 RSPB nature reserves.
