Chocolate connoisseurs should pop along to Waitrose from Friday to Sunday 15th-17th December (if you can make your way through the hordes of Christmas shoppers) for a taste of Madagascar.
To be more precise, certain Waitrose stores are holding sample sessions of the world's first Equitrade products and the world's first chocolates totally from Madagascar, from bean to finished, packaged bar. The Mora Mora and Sambirano Gran Cru 2006 chocolate bars are made from criollo, trinitario and forastero beans from the beautiful Sambirano Valley in north-west Madagascar. Your average vegetable-fat-laden confectionery bar it ain't.
The company responsible, Malagasy, produces chocolate bars which have won leading awards for taste from the Academy of Chocolate while also being nominated as one of the most ethical chocolate bars on the market by Ethical Consumer Magazine.
For details about which Waitrose stores are holding the tasting sessions, check out the Malagasy website.

Edit: tastings are now taking place 15th-17th December, not just the 16th.
