Bears have stopped hibernating in Northern Spain
It's probably not a total surprise that brown bears in Northern Spain, usually well in hibernation by now, are out strolling around the hillsides. After all, aren't we out in our autumnal garb, spindly arms surprisingly exposed and void of thermal undergarments? So too the bears have apparently become incredibly confused about what time it really is, and decided to stay up and watch the 3am movie with some of the winter berries and acorns that are growing on the hillsides at a time when food is usually so scarce that it's just not worth getting out of bed. Not only this, but daisies are still blooming, swallows haven't migrated, and bumblebees - which die at the first frost - are still bumbling around. [GT]
