Greening Supermarkets revisited: not so green

Green_market_apple

The National Consumer Council tested the top eight supermarkets on seasonal food, organics, sustainable sourcing, and cutting waste. The good news is that everybody is getting better, but the bad news is that nobody is really pulling out ahead. Waitrose came out best overall with a B, with Sainsbury's the best of the major retailers with a C on its report card. Tesco and Asda are the biggest entirely and were "disappointing" - D rated, with Morrison's and Somerfield at bottom with E. Surprisingly, the Co-op was also D rated, having a poor selection of sustainable fish and lacking recycled packaging. Click here to read the full report. [GT]
