WEEE Man in Bristol until June 19
The WEEE Man is a sculpture made from an amount of electrical parts equivalent to how much the average UK citizen will pitch in the bin during his lifetime. The vast majority of said parts go straight into the landfill now, but as of 2007 manufacturers and retailers will be responsible. Bristol is hosting the WEEE Man to draw attention to the need for "public and businesses to reduce, reuse & recycle." In fact, they'd like your help with it.
Bristol City Council, Bordeaux Quay and the local media have sponsored a writing contest. Subject: What does the WEEE Man make you feel? Competition opened May 15 and the winner will be announced June 17. For more information, write to weeeman@bristol-city.gov.uk.
Bristol - apparently a green hotbed, like lime chile - has the Sustainable Bristol: Festival of Nature 2006 the 3rd & 4th June at Bristol's Waterfront Square & Millennium Square. Then there's Sustainable Business Practice for Tourism Businesses on Tuesday 6 June 2006 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. And a host of other interesting activities.
