Lubborn Organic Brie

Somerset_brieWhat with it being National Organic Dairy Week there's no better time to pick up an award-winning Organic Somerset Brie from the Lubborn Creamery.  Best enjoyed when, like Jean Brodie, it is in its prime, you should be ready to eat this cheese within the week before its use-by date.  Meaning you will probably not be buying a whole 2.4kg wheel.  Although, it does look really good... and it picked up 3 gold medals at the International Food Exhibition... But truthfully I'm more of a Camembert girl myself.  They do have Camembert also, but sadly it's not organic.  So my next pick would have to be the Capricorn goats cheese (aka Somserset goats cheese).

Somerset_capricorn1Capricorn Goats Cheese is mild and firm when young, with nutty overtones, and grows creamier and stronger as it ages.  Best for salad early on; more spreadable as it matures.  Goat cheese is also a natural alternative for those (like myself) who are allergic to cow milk (although, perverse creature that I am, I find it hard to eliminate cow cheese entirely, so a good goat is lovely to find).  They recommend cutting a round in half and grilling it on the barbeque, then serving with carmelized onions and rocket salad (aka arugula).  I particularly like putting a slice on a portobello cap and broiling.
