thefoodloop is sort of like a bungee cord for food. Wherever you'd use string or toothpicks to hold food (such as the fish over there) together, instead you can use thefoodloop, which is made of silicone, reusable and dishwasher safe (as well as freezer safe and microwave safe and apparently even okay to boil or bake at up to 350°C/675°F. Presumably it is hot pink to make sure that, unless you're making Bubble Gum Cake, you don't accidentally eat it.
They say thefoodloop is 'arthritis friendly', and speaking as someone who's had joint problems from a very early age, I might actually give this gadget a try. It's got to be more hygenic than string and more ethical than toothpicks (excepting presumably the Preserve toothpicks). The company has some foodloop-using recipes (which look extremely good to my post-midnight snack-craving brain, although probably not revolutionary). Available online from various usual places although they're still working on international vendors. $15 USD for a packet of six, and they can be chained together .
