Reviewed: Episode 2 - It's not easy being green

Comments (6)

Upcomin_1 The second episode in this new green series showed how the Strawbridge's are progressing towards sustainable living in Cornwall.  This week Dick and Briget visited the nearby Eden Project and were given an insight into their waste neutral policy.  We have previously reviewed the drinking glasses made by the project from recycled glass bottles. Meanwhile James and Charlotte were busy digging the foundations for a heat exchange system in the new greenhouse.  Unfortunately I was not able to track down the dishcloth top that Briget brought back from the big green gathering!

Upcoming2

Whilst the greenhouse design did seem a little unconventional, its obviously not a new idea, as a Google search will reveal (see a similar project here). It makes sense that the family want to maximise what they can grow to feed their family (and many friends). The newly installed outside solar shower is completely energy efficient but will it be any good in the Winter? The pigs arrived  - 'Christmas' and 'New Year' said Dick, with a wink - but Briget's not so sure about their fate.  For more information on organic pigs - see Craig Farm's website.  Catch the next episode on BBC 2, Tuesday at 8pm.

By the way, I knew I'd seen that big moustache and enthusiasm for crazy projects somewhere before; Dick Strawbridge has previously appeared on Scrapheap Challenge. [Ella]

  • An amplifier takes in entrance-hall a signal of feeble amplitude and amplifies

him to an useful level for the equipment who will be there bound in issue.

When the signal point-blank is very feeble (a few milivolts, in truth less)

one will use a préamplificateur, of which the role will be to bring this

tension to a threshold relatively immune to the noise (a few volts)

Come out her of the préamplificateur will be bound s v of the amplifier of

power, who to his tower will be able to generate several zero of volts.

First electronic amplifiers were using the lamps technology, before evolving

    to the bipolar transistor.

Today one finds always amplifiers to lamps, but the majority produced unities

use the transistor, bipolar or FET.

The a transistors advantages is the utilization to integrated circuits of

power, where everything the circuit of amplification is regrouped in a volume

    restricts.

A differences enters technologies swigs/transistor is the possible production

of odd overtones by transistors, giving back the signal reproduces less

agreeable to the ear that the one reproduces by lamps, where these are even

    overtones who will be produced.

Nevertheless spots transistors on edge (FET) divide this advantage with

    lamps.

  • This show is wonderful. I applaud the Strawbridges for making the effort and showing us their transformation. It puts a recognizable face on being more eco-friendly.
