GreenNet-APC's Fibre for Africa
GreenNet is a not for profit formed in 1986 to promote groups and individuals working for peace, human rights and the environment through the use of information and communication technologies. They provide internet access, web design, web hosting, and training. For a measly £50 they'll give you a full day's training in Linux so you can make the leap from resource-intensive commercial ware to Open Source programs that run happily on cheap old computers.
The latest GreenNet project, in conjunction with the Association for Progressive Communications, is Fibre For Africa, dedicated to bringing affordable bandwidth to the African continent. More bandwidth means better access to information, which makes all trade a little fairier. Go GreenNet!
