Organic beer of the week: Duchy

DuchywinteraleDespite polar winds and snow sweeping the country, us self-deluded Brits are still at it: al fresco dining on crisp Mediterranean salad and exotic fruit dessert, quaffing chilled imported lager as we squat beneath patio heaters in our shirtsleeves. Thankfully, the Prince Regent is flapping his abundant lug-holes in defiance at such collective madness and dragging us back in touch with our environment in the best possible way – through beer. His Duchy Originals Organic Winter Ale virtually screams seasonal and locally-sourced good sense, using English-grown cereals and hops that provide a moreish fruity flavour and ruby-rich colour. At 6.2% abv, this hearty brew has the same glow-inducing effect as mulled wine and should be just as compulsory a tipple for Christmas. You’ll find it in Waitrose for £1.89 a bottle.
