The WEEE man cometh

WeeemanYou can't buy the 7m tall, 3 tonne WEEE man, but you can learn some frightening stuff from him. The sculpture, currently outside City Hall in London - tourist central - is a physical representation of the amount of electronic junk each Brit gets through in a lifetime. Which is pretty scary. Fortunately, the law is changing - the WEEE directive in the name - and by 2006 electronics' prices are likely to rise and the Sonys and Dixons of this world will be legally obliged to make it easier for us to recycle gadgets. The sculpture's outside City Hall 'til the end of May; after that it heads off to the Eden Project. There's also a cool WEEE man website with tips on how to cut down on electronics, recycle mobiless and print cartridges, and which gadget-makers are the most eco-friendly. [found via BBC News]
