Waitrose, Sainsburys and Marks are great (boo hiss: Asda, Tesco, Morrisons)

Porkbacongammon_175447_1So the good news is that organic food sales in British supermarkets are up. The bad, however, is that the naughty trio of Asda, Tesco and Morrisons are unnecessarily buying between 50 and 80% of their organic pork from abroad. So says the Soil Association's report out today. It also says:organic onion sales are up! Hurrah! Organic apple imports are up! Boo! Overall support for UK organic farmers is up! Somerfield had no UK organic apples! Surprise, surprise! Sainsburys, Waitrose and Mark & Sparks are organic heroes! Incidentally, the folks at the Soil Association didn't use all the exclamation marks. That was me getting excessively exuberant. If want to support UK organic farmers, I suggest - where possible - heading to Sainsburys, Waitrose and Marks & Spencers until the other supermarkets get the message. Or shun them all and buy locally.

Ethical consumerism, don't make me laugh! Anyone who has correctly researched and understood the disasterous economical impact some of the companies promoted on this site have had, would not hesitate to boycott the promotion and supporting of those companies. The greed and dirty tactics they have used and promoted in order to monopolise and destroy our communities is truely unethical yet we are ok to shop there due to them jumping on the green bandwagon!? I notice there is a half-hearted attempt to smack the hand of the 'really naughty little corporations!' (Boo, hiss: Wal-mart, Tesco and Morrisons) Wal-mart and Tesco are still well embroiled in unfair trade and misconduct. And Marks and Spencers certainly are not great as they rank very highly in unethical practise. If you want ethical trade look further, boycott convenience and contribute more than consumerism to society.
